Pyrrosia lingua var. eboshi

Contorted Japanese Tongue Fern

Robust Contorted Pyrrosia , P. lingua var eboshi is extremely easy to cultivate. I have maintained this variety for about 4 years and have not experienced any problems with its care. It is slow to grow whcn compared to others but still will fill a basket in about 3 seasons, and produces very short stunted curled fronds. At maturity, individual leaves can be 8-10 inches long and 2 inches across at the middle. The fronds are asymmetrical with many twisted, curled and wavy leaves. It is mostly sterile and I have not seen it producing fertile fronds with spores. A relatively recent introduction to the US from Asian collections, still considered rare.
